Shahid Law Office was established in February 1997 by A. Peter Shahid, Jr., as a sole practitioner. He and his staff are committed to giving his clients, the individual and personal attention and respect they deserve.

The Shahid Law Office is located on King Street in downtown Charleston and offer’s legal services to clients who are have been arrested for any criminal offense in municipal, magistrate, state and federal court. We also represent clients who are planning to or have been separated from their spouse, or in the midst of a child custody or child support dispute, or in need of assistance in any family court matter. The Shahid Law office provides legal service to clients who have been injured in a car accident or have suffered injuries from a fall at a business or from a dog bite. Legal services are also available in the preparation of a simple will, health care power of attorney, or in managing the estate of a deceased family member. The Shahid Law office provides legal service to organizations, businesses, and individuals in need of investigative services. If a company is subject to an allegation of wrongdoing or if an individual has been identified as a target of an investigation, the Shahid Law Office has experience in representing clients to assist them in responding to those claims.

Peter Shahid is a Charleston native. A graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1978, he obtained his law degree from the USC in 1981.

During his 35 years of practicing law, Mr. Shahid has served as a Charleston County Public Defender, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mount Pleasant Municipal Judge and as a Sole Practitioner. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Peter Shahid is a member of the Charleston County Bar and serves on the Charleston County Bar Executive Committee.  He served as a member of the Charleston County Bar Public Defender Board. He has been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer for 2014, 2015 and 2016.  In March 2016, he was presented by Lawyers Weekly the Leadership in Law Award.

He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court and represent clients in the South Carolina Supreme Court, the Court of Common Pleas, Court of General Sessions, Family Court, Probate Court, Small Claims Court, and Magistrate and Municipal Courts, the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Shahid Law Office has been engaged in complex and multi-party litigation in criminal, civil, family and probate court matters.  He represented the Catholic Diocese of Charleston as its General Counsel in several civil actions and in the 2007 court approved Class Action Settlement Agreement.

He represents the court appointed guardian ad litem of the son of the late James Brown in the Probate Court in Aiken County.  As an Assistant United States Attorney he successfully prosecuted multi-defendant drug conspiracy cases, multi-defendant fraud investigations, and other complicated fraud and accounting related white collar prosecutions, violent crimes and various other matters.

Mr. Shahid has served as a speaker at legal seminars and continuing legal education seminars for topics including class action litigation, property-related matters and legal ethics.

Involved in his community, Mr. Shahid is a member of Charleston City Council, representing District 9. He is also the Chairperson of the West Of Revitalization Committee (WORC 2020), the city council committee spearheading the efforts to rejuvenate the West Ashley community.

Mr. Shahid is also a member of the Hibernian Society.  He served as the Director of the annual Knights of Columbus Council #704 Turkey Day Run & Gobble from 2005 until 2009 and as a basketball coach at The Charleston Catholic School. He also served on the Board of the Florence Crittenton House and on the Finance Committee at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
